160 students of FUTA Federal University of Technology Akure will graduate with first-class results at its 32nd convocation which will be held between November 26 and November 27.
FUTA Vice-chancellor Professor Joseph Fuwape said this at a press conference in Akure on Friday while announcing the university’s 40th anniversary.
Mr. Fuwape, represented by the institution’s Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Professor Phillip Oguntunde, said that out of the 5,114 graduates, 3,205 were in the undergraduate category and 1,909 were in the postgraduate category.
He said that 1,334 students received second-class honors (upper level), 1,483 students received second-class honors (lower level), and 222 and 6 students received third-class and pass respectively.
The vice-chancellor pointed out that Miss Taiwo Oluyale from the Department of Architecture is the best graduate with a CGPA of 4.89.

According to him, the institution was established in 1981 started with 149 students and three schools.
Now it has 25,000 students, nine schools, one graduate school, and 55 departments.
Mr. Fuwape pointed out that as pioneer students of the School of Health Sciences started lectures on October 24, FUTA has fully launched its medical program.
He explained that the institution has fully justified the reasons for its establishment and stated that it has contributed to the development of human capital in China and other regions.
The vice-chancellor stated that the institution will award three Nigerians honorary doctorates on Saturday in recognition of their outstanding contributions to society.
“For the first time in the history of the university, three eminent scholars will be recognized as professors emeritus.
“They are Prof. Ekundayo Adeyemi, former Acting Vice-Chancellor of FUTA; Prof. Olugboyega Ademosun, former Deputy Vice-Chancellor, and Prof. Oluwole Falaki, Pioneer Prof. of Computer Science in the university,” he stated.
