18-Year-Old Mass Shooting Survivor Earns Full University Scholarship

Cursory: Isaiah Marquez-Green, a survivor of the Sandy Hook shooting, received a university scholarship from hockey player James Trouba through the Garden of Dreams Foundation. Trouba surprised Isaiah with a full scholarship for law school, highlighting his resilience and aspirations. This exemplifies the positive impact of mentorship and community support.

Isaiah Marquez-Green, an 18-year-old survivor of a tragic mass shooting during his time in elementary school, has achieved a remarkable feat by securing a comprehensive university scholarship.

Having endured the devastating incident at Sandy Hook elementary school in the United States back in 2012, Isaiah tragically lost his younger sister in the ordeal.

In honor of her memory, he has been actively working to establish a meaningful legacy. In a heartwarming turn of events, Isaiah’s dedication and resilience were recognized when he was unexpectedly presented with a full scholarship by star Hockey player James Trouba.

This inspiring moment unfolded after a New York Rangers game. Isaiah expressed that Trouba had always been his mentor and someone he aspired to meet.

While anticipating a jersey from Jacob Trouba, the renowned player, Isaiah was taken by surprise when he was bestowed with a scholarship, a generous gesture made possible through the Garden of Dreams Foundation.

The Garden of Dreams Foundation’s collaborators offer educational and skill-building prospects, mentorship initiatives, and impactful experiences to enrich the lives of young individuals within the Connecticut community.

Following the gesture of signing his jersey for Isaiah, the star Hockey player extended an invitation for him to occupy a seat on the Rangers bench, referring to him as an exceptional individual.

Trouba James acknowledged his awareness of Isaiah’s remarkable journey and inquired about his future aspirations.

In response to Isaiah’s expressed desire to become a lawyer, Trouba James presented him with a certificate, further cementing the depth of support and encouragement.

“This is for you,” he said. “It’s from the Garden of Dreams. It’s a scholarship for law school,” Trouba said.

“You’re going to graduate from college, you’re going to go to law school and you’re going to have no debt coming out of school, “I’m looking forward to what you accomplish in life, You’ve got a lot ahead of you,” he added.

Isaiah’s mother, Nelba Marquez-Greene shared a heartfelt moment with a clip of her son receiving the certificate on her Twitter“This was a lot of beauty to hold at once. Thank you, NYRangers, for keeping your promises. We are officially a UConn family, Take good care of him, friends,” she tweeted.

Isaiah said he will be attending the University of Connecticut. He noted that he has been accepted into the school’s special law program.
