FG Unreachable since last meeting, our three-week ultimatum still holds — ASUU

The Academic Staff Union of Universities ASUU said on Tuesday that it had not heard from the federal government after the bipartisan meeting last Thursday.

The union added that it has not given up its three-week ultimatum that it gave the federal government.

ALLSCHOOL has reported that ASUU has issued an ultimatum to the federal government after the government failed to fulfill part of the agreement reached with the union in 2020.

The Federal Government had promised to pay the N30bn revitalization fund to universities while also agreeing to release N22.1bn earned allowances to university staff.

Following the ultimatum, the Speaker of the House of Representatives Femi Gbajabiamila invited the Chairman of ASUU, Minister of Finance Zainab Ahmed; and Minister of State of Education Chukvumeka Nwajuba.

At the end of the meeting last week, the government promised to pay ASUU this week.

But Osodeke told The PUNCH on Tuesday that the federal government has not yet started the payment and has not contacted after the meeting.

He said, “Since that meeting, we have not heard from the Federal Government. But our ultimatum still stands. We gave the government three weeks and one week has passed; they are left with two weeks.”
