“I was a law student at Ebonyi Varsity, I dropped out because of funds, I had to travel far away so that my friends won’t mock me”

Following doubts that the street hawker who was rewarded for his kindness was actually a school dropout, the young man has said that the authorities can arrest him for a scam if he lied.

Challenging anyone who feels he is lying, Ekuma Jeremiah Iziogo said they can go to Ebonyi State University (EBSU) to confirm for themselves, adding that he can present the original copies of his documents as proof.

The 26-year-old young man propelled to national limelight a few days ago after a video of him giving money to people in a prison van went viral.

Many Nigerians were touched by his acts of kindness, and started sending him money. The billionaire socialite and businessman, Obi Cubana, also promised to sponsor his education to any level, and to employ him in one of his organizations after his studies.

Ekuma said that when he gave the money to the prisoners in the van, he did not stage it with anybody, and did not even have an idea that someone was recording him.

According to him, before coming to Lagos, he was in Port Harcourt where he did different menial jobs to survive. It was from those petty jobs that he saved money for JAMB, and after that he got admission into Ebonyi State University to study Law.

But he couldn’t get money for his school fees, so he was forced to drop out of school. But he couldn’t return to Port Harcourt because he didn’t know how to face his friends who had begun calling him ‘lawyer’ already, so he decided to go to Lagos to ‘hustle.’

He said that it was after he had given the prisoners money that someone called him and demanded for his phone number, and the person told him that he would call him later to request for his details.

Speaking further, he said that life is now better for him, and that he has enough money in his account now. He said that after dropping out of school, he did not plan that he would be back to school anytime soon. And now that he has money, he wants to try and make good use of it so that he doesn’t go back to the streets.

His story is quite a touching one, and it is beautiful to see how his little act of kindness has brought him so much blessings.
