Nigerian Poly Graduate Who Has No Masters Degree Gets 7 PhD Scholarships in US Varsities

Islamiyat Ojelade, a graduate of Science Laboratory Technology from the Federal Polytechnic, Ilaro Ogun state has bagged 7 fully funded scholarships in USA.

Islamiyat who emerged as the overall best graduating student of her school disclosed that this has always been a dream of hers.

While sharing her story on her LinkedIn profile, she said she was confused on what her next step would be after graduation.

According to her, after graduation, she told some people about her dreams to pursue a PhD programme abroad but most of them said it isn’t possible.

Then she came accross a tweet from one Dr. Babajide Ojo, which led to a free mentorship.

After many hurdles, preparations, hardwork, and prayers, Islamiyat bagged seven PhD’s scholarship depite not having a Masters degree.

Read her story below:

“I am so elated to inform you all that I will be starting my PhD program in Chemistry at the Florida State University, Tallahassee, Florida, USA this Fall, having received full scholarships from 7 universities in the United States of America with my Higher National Diploma in Science Laboratory Technology (Chemistry Major) from The Federal Polytechnic Ilaro, Ogun state, Nigeria where I emerged as the Overall Best Graduating Student (17/18 set).

“The schools I got into are Florida State University, University of Massachusetts Armherst, University of Kansas, University of Kentucky, University of North Texas, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and Marquette University.

“Considering the dichotomy between HND and BSc in Nigeria, I was scared and confused on what next to do after my undergraduate studies. I summoned the courage to discuss my ‘big dream’ with some people including friends, fathers, mothers, and lecturers. As you would expect, very few among them keyed into this and supported me morally and financially. Others doubted if I would be able to get a PhD with the HND.
