In JAMB, what is the meaning of Special Consideration (Waiver)??

It means, additional requirement for a particular course in a particular school. If your school have a special consideration for either O’level Requirement, UTME Subject Combination or Direct Entry Requirement, then please take note of it.

Note sometimes in special consideration column, the school requirement might be slight different from the general requirement. We advice you know your desired school’s special consideration for your course. ITS NECESSARY else you might be denied admission.

JAMB SUBJECT COMBINATION FOR ENGLISH AND LITERARY STUDIES

English, Literature-in-English, one (1) other Arts subject and another Arts or Social Science subjects.

VIEW SPECIAL CONSIDERATIONS (WAIVER)
  • (i) ABU requires Use of English, one Arts subject and two other Arts or Social Science subjects..
  • (ii) DELSU accepts Literature in English, an Art subject and any other subject from Social Science.
  • (iii) UNIHEZ requires Literature in English, one other Arts subject and another Arts or Social Science subject.
  • (iv) KASU accepts Literature in English and two other subjects in Arts or Social Sciences.
  • (v) RSU requires English Language, Literature in English, Government/History and Christian Religious Knowledge/Islamic Religious Studies.

O’LEVEL REQUIREMENT FOR ENGLISH AND LITERARY STUDIES

Below is the UTME Requirement for  English and Literary Studies

  • Five (5) SSC credit passes to include Literature-in-English and English Language.
VIEW SPECIAL CONSIDERATIONS (WAIVER)
  • (i) AAUA requires five (5) ‘O’ Level credit passes to include English Language, Literature in English, Mathematics, one Arts subject and two (2) of the following CRS/IRS, Igbo Language/Yoruba Language/Hausa Language, History/Government, French, Fine Arts or Music.
  • (ii) CHRISTOPHER – Maximum of two (2) sittings.
  • (iii) FED-OYE EKITI requires five (5) credits passes at SSC (or its equivalent) including English Language, Literature in English, plus at least a pass in Mathematics.
  • (iv) KASU requires Five ‘O’ level credit passes to include English Language, Mathematics, Literature in English and two other subjects in Arts or Social Sciences
  • (v) PAAU require five (5) ‘O’ level credit passes to include English Language, Literature in English and three (3) other subjects in Arts or Social Sciences.
  • (vi) NDU requires five (5) ‘O’ Level credit passes in English Language, Literature in English and any other three (3) subjects, two (2) of which must be Arts subjects.
  • (vii) UNN requires a Science subject.
  • (viii) DELSU requires a) At least five (5) SSCE/NECO/GCE O’ Level credit passes at not more than two sittings, which may include Mathematics, English Language, Literature in English, and three other subjects in Arts and Social Science. b) TC II Certificate with Credit/Merit passes in at least five relevant subjects obtained at not more than two sittings.
  • (ix) LCITY requires five (5) credit passes at SSC or its equivalent to include English Language, Literature in English and any three (3) Arts subjects.
  • (x) UNIHEZ requires Five (5) SSC credit passes to include Literature in English and English Language. A Pass in Mathematics is required.
  • (xi) ABU requires Five ‘O’ level credit passes to include Literature in English and English Language.
  • (xii) RSU requires Five (5) WASC/GCE/SSCE/NECO ‘O’ level credit passes in English Language, Mathematics, Literature in English and any other two (2) subjects.

DIRECT ENTRY REQUIREMENT FOR ENGLISH AND LITERARY STUDIES

Below is the Direct Entry (DE) Requirement for English and Literary Studies.

  • Two (2) ‘A’ level passes to include Literature-in-English and one (1) other Arts subject.

Please Note: The Direct Entry Requirement above is also same for courses like;

  • English Studies.
  • Literature-in-English.
  • English Literature and Language.
VIEW SPECIAL CONSIDERATIONS (WAIVER)
  • (i) AAUA accepts ND upper credit in Mass Communication. AAUA does not accept NCE.
  • (ii) ABU accepts Two ‘A’ level papers including English at IJMB/ NCE, or a minimum of Merit at Diploma. Candidates with Diploma must also possess pass in Literature in English. General English/Use of English at NCE satisfies’ O’ level English requirement.
  • (iii) ABUJA accepts two (2) ‘A’ Level passes to include Literature in English and one other Arts subject.
  • (iv) CALABAR accepts NCE with Literature in English as the teaching subject.
  • (v) CHRISTOPHER accepts HND, ND or NCE with credit passes in the relevant programmes/subjects.
  • (vi) NDU requires pass in Literature in English at the ‘A’ Level or NCE merit and a pass in at least any Arts subject.
  • (vii) OAU same as in English Language.
  • (viii) RSU accepts Admission to Year II.OND/ND (Upper Credit) relevant to the discipline. HND (Lower Credit) relevant to the Programme. In addition, all such candidates above must also satisfy the U.M.E. entry requirements. Admission into Year Ill. Degree relevant to the Programme. HND (Upper Credit) relevant to the Programme from a recognized Institution
  • (ix) UNIOSUN accepts two (2) ‘A’ Level passes to include Literature in English and other Arts subjects or NCE in English/Political Science
  • (x) UNN accepts NCE merit in English Language in addition to the UTME requirements.
  • (xi) UNIHEZ accepts Two (2) A Level passes to include Literature in English and one other Arts subject.
  • (xii) KASU accepts Two ‘A’ passes to include Literature in English and one other Arts subjects. NCE merit pass including English provided they merit ‘O’ Level requirements. ND/HND Lower credit in related field and IJMB 7 points and above
  • (xiii) DELSU requires a) In addition to the five (5) ‘O’ Level credit passes at SSC or its equivalent, candidates must possess at least merit passes in not less than two art subjects, including literature, at the GCE ‘A’ Level or H.S.C. Examination or their equivalent. b) A pass in ‘A’ Level General Paper or NCE General English is not accepted in lieu of an ‘O’ Level credit pass in SSC or its equivalent English Language, Literature courses taken at OND will not be accepted for admission into the department.
