Kind Corp Member Brings Road For Community Battling With Erosion

A kind Corps member named Obinna Gabriel has shared on social media how he was able to fix a road in a community battling with erosion that claimed two kids’ life and stopped businesses.

The Corp member was celebrated on social media for spearheading advocacy that brought about change in a community.

Obinna arrived at Ayegbani community, Kwara State for his NYSC, and learned that the roads in the community were bad as a result of erosion.

He took it upon himself to get it fixed by writing to organizations and eventually got the attention of the community’s representative in the House of Reps.

According to Obinna, “It was the biggest challenge in Ayegbami. I had just arrived as a Corps member 10months ago. I was told the erosion had claimed two kids, businesses closed, inaccessibility to about seven other communities, etc. Overwhelmed with compassion I swore I’d do something about it.”

He further added that “It was my first NYSC project. I drafted the proposal and wrote to organizations, the commissioner of works and media houses. I brought NTA ILORIN, KWARA TV and SOBI FM for wider reach. Fortunately, my advocacy got to the community’s representative in the House of Reps.”

“He reached out to me, then included it in his constituency budget for 2021. Fast forward to today, Ayegbami community’s link road has been fixed. I’m so excited and grateful to God Almighty. It was worth all the stress. @ToyosiGodwin is part of this success, gave massive support.”

Many Nigerian hail him in the comment section of the post.

@fabulosArmie :”This should serve as an encouragement to intending NYSC corp members out there. Unless for security reasons, do not be in a hurry to redeploy or become a “ghost corper”. Rather, integrate and see how you can build the community you’re posted. Make an impact! “

@SAINTDENIX wrote: “If I am not mistaken, this is the core foundation why Nysc was created, to reconstruct, to reconcile and rebuild.. This should make a case for why Nysc should not be scraped … An Igbo young man bonding with a local community and making a solid impact… Well done comrade.”

@SimplyTeeWhy: “Amazing that it took a stranger to come down & make the lawmaker representing this area know the level of rot. He would have visited the place for campaigns many times but someone from outside the state is the reason he knew he had to do something.Kudos bro
