Cursory: Dr. AbdulAzeez Anjorin, the Acting Head of the Department of Microbiology at LASU, has received the prestigious GVN 2023 Training Scholarship/Award. He will attend a short course on Virology at Ivy League Institutions.
Dr. AbdulAzeez Anjorin, the Acting Head of the Department of Microbiology at Lagos State University (LASU), is currently representing LASU in the United States.
He has been awarded the Global Virology Network (GVN) 2023 Training Scholarship/Award to attend a short course in Basic and Translational Virology at the University of Maryland and Johns Hopkins University School of Public Health in Baltimore, USA.
Additionally, Dr. AbdulAzeez Anjorin has been chosen as one of the trainees for the Bacterial and Viral Bioinformatics Resource Center (BV-BRC) 2023 program at the Argonne National Laboratory in Chicago, Lemont Illinois, USA.
The award letter, signed by Professor Dr. Christian Brechot, President of the Global Virology Network, and Professor Robert Gallo, Co-founder and International Advisor, states that the scholarship training will cover various aspects of viruses relevant to human health, including fundamental, translational, and clinical aspects.
The program will provide opportunities for discussions and interactions with renowned leaders in medical virology, industry partners, policymakers, and program officials from the Johns Hopkins School of Public Health and the National Institutes of Health (NIH).
During a conversation with the recipient of the award in the United States, he expressed optimism that the scholarship training will enhance his capacity to share knowledge among faculty members and provide training to undergraduate and postgraduate students in the field of genomics and metagenomics.
He aims to utilize the newly developed bioinformatics tools from the United States’ Argonne National Laboratory in Chicago, Lemont Illinois, as well as the skills acquired from the GVN training at Ivy League institutions.
The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, mni, NPOM, congratulated the LASU ambassador on this accomplishment and wished him continued success in his future endeavors.
