“They called me names”- Farmer Celebrates Gaining Fully Funded Scholarship to Study ‘Agriculture’

CURSORY: A young man, has recently opened up about his scholarship in the UK and shared his journey before that point.

A Ghanaian man, Edward Asare, has shared a story of his brother, Benedict Asare, who got a fully funded scholarship to study an Agriculture-related program at the University of East Anglia in the UK.

Sharing his story, Edward revealed that at a time, due to the numerous rejections his brother faced, he almost discouraged him to consider other options.

In his words:

“Edward, don’t discourage him. Just like you’re convinced digital marketing is for you, maybe his is to travel and study” – This was what Nathan Lee-Winans Annobi told me when I expressed worry over my brother not yielding to work now.

I tried to study abroad after national service and failed. He also tried several schools but was denied several times.

I advised him to join me do social media after working on the farm for some time. He accepted to do it but I could tell what he really wanted to do was to go to school

He kept going to the University of Ghana biotech lab even though he was done with school. He would help some of the students with their lab work. I asked him why he does that and he said “I don’t want to get rusty”.

Fast forward, he told me he has got admission. It was no news. He said this several times and it didn’t end anywhere

Like joke, he got a scholarship. Then his visa was approved. Then his plane ticket was bought. Then we got to the airport. And we were not told he should go back.

I woke up the next day and I got a text, Bro, I’m now in London.

It’s real. I cried out of joy and a lesson learnt. That whatever you earnestly seek, you will get it by the grace of God.

The scholarship boy also took LinkedIn to share his own short version of his journey.

According to him, some people called him names because he identified himself as a farmer.

In his words: “People used to call me the farmer in suit. I farm during the weekdays and the weekends, I slid into my suit and have a good time. I know it’s been a while I posted something about farming. I haven’t stopped, I just paused and want to go into research. I have started that journey at the University of East Anglia, The Sainsbury Laboratory. Wish me well and let’s make agriculture a good secure adventure“.

In another interview with YEN.com.gh, Benedict revealed that he started applying for scholarships to study abroad in 2019 but was unsuccessful until he finally received a full-time offer to study at the University of East Anglia in the UK.

I started applying in 2019. Some I got admissions but no scholarships. For this one, I applied last year but was rejected and I went back again to apply this year which the Lord smiled upon me.

I got admission to most schools in the UK like University of Leeds, University of Essex, University of Aberdeen, University of Aberystwyth, University of Sheffield, Queensland University and Wageningen University in Netherlands but no scholarships or they came with a little scholarship of about £5,000 pounds until I got this one which was fully funded“.

From all of us at ALLSCHOOL, we wish Benedict a smooth academic journey!
