SSANU Threatens to Collapse Varsity System if the Released N22.7bn isn’t Shared Well

The Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), has urged the federal government not to force unions to disrupt the university system on the proposed sharing formula of 22.7 billion nairas.

SSANU National Vice President Dr. Abdussobur Salaam revealed this when speaking to journalists at the Western Region Administrative Conference held at the Federal University of Agricultural Abeokuta (FUNAAB), Abeokuta stated that If the shared formula is not handled properly, it may cause chaos within the country University system.

Salam pointed out that the sharing plan proposed by the forthcoming fund is unfair and a platform for dissatisfaction on campus.

He pointed out that the undistributed 22 billion nairas were originally allocated to SSANU and NASU by the agreement in February last year.

“We are only concerned that government should know better that these are not the best of times to cause chaos on our campuses, but a time to strengthen the university system in the efforts to rebuild the Nigerian economy disrupted by the onslaught of the COVID-19 and other global malaise.

“As a union, SSANU wholesomely and vehemently rejects the lopsided sharing formula and will use every legitimate means to sustain its position on this.

“We have directed our member to be vigilant and shall collapse the system at any hint of the payment of the Earned Allowances using the evil formula,” he said.
